Who am I?

I'm just an autistic guy who has managed to turn being a quiet nerd into a job!

I currently work as a PR Campaign Executive for Fetch Publicity as their resident anime expert, have over a decade of experience writing for various pop culture websites, and am an aspiring fiction writer and filmmaker.

My passion is my greatest weapon. I've loved Japanese anime and video games since childhood, which has allowed me to excel in all the different avenues of my life - whether it's running the UK theatrical PR campaign for ONE PIECE Film: Red, writing for Crunchyroll about how even a show with a title like Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai can relate to personal struggles with social anxiety, or graduating with a First Class Honours after writing an academic analysis of Mari Okada's creative works, to argue that screenwriters can also be auteurs!

Although anime is my specialist subject, I also have experience across cult and genre films, including classic cinema and horror.

A photograph of me wearing a black and red The Batman themed buttoned jacket. I am sat on a bench in front of illuminated artwork showing an eye with an upside down pentagram in it. The photo was taken at a trendy burger restauraunt in London.

My Story

I was a baby when I was born. I did not cry...

Actually, I probably did. Born in Worksop, I moved to just outside Cambridge at a young age and was raised by my single mother, alongside my brothers. I was of school age when PokéMania hit, and I can't envision Pokémon ever not being a major part of my life (Primeape is my favourite, if you're wondering).

I've been writing about video games since my teens. Starting out writing news stories for a friend's long since defunct Pokémon fan website, I later branched out and became the editor of a Nintendo-focused website, and then as a reporter and review for multiple anime websites. This has led me to represent publications at exhibition events such as EGX and MCM London Comic Con.

After finishing my A-Levels, I started a degree in Psychology that wasn't for me, and dropped out at a time when the country was still reeling from a global recession. I spent the first half of my 20s unemployed and applying for everything, until I saw a fateful tweet advertising a PR internship in London. I applied, and after turning up to the interview incredibly overdressed, got the job!

In the years that followed, I contributed to PR and Social Media campaigns on a freelance basis, which ignited a love and appreciation for film. In 2019, I returned to Anglia Ruskin University as a mature student, and graduated three years later with a First Class Honours in BA Writing & Film Studies. Since then, I have been working full time in Film PR, while also planning my next steps towards branching into writing and making films myself.

In My Own Time...

Did you know that I reached Top 16 in the UK's first ever Pokémon Video Game Championships National Tournament? I've been playing competitively since 2009, travelling across Europe to compete at both the video games and trading card game.

I'm a collector of probably too many things - anime figures, Collector's Edition Blu-rays, and far too many Trading Card Games than I'm willing to admit. Storage is definitely the biggest concern on my mind.

My all time favourite film is Studio Ghibli's The Cat Returns, and my favourite director is undoubtedly Mari Okada. My music library is typically a mix of Yuki Kajiura's anime scores, 2000s rock music like H.I.M. and Rammstein, and the various selections that make up the The Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix

Since childhood, I've wanted to be a creative writer, so I am always planning the next screenplay or novel. So watch this space!

I was the founder of "StreetPass Cambridge" and organised local community events for Nintendo fans, working with local businesses such as GAME. The group was part of a nationwide network of fans that collaborated on initiatives together and with Nintendo UK.

I also love every dog, and every dog loves me.
