JOURNALISM & WRITING

My entertainment writing journey began when I was still at school, writing news stories for a friend's Pokémon fansite. In the decades since then, I've been the editor of a small gaming website, interviewed award-winning directors, and written deep-dive features for a leading anime streaming service. My writing has taken me across the country attending industry events such as EGX Expo and film premieres, and it has also kept me at my desk as write comprehensive reviews and track breaking news stories that affect the art that I love.

I have by-lines at Anime UK News, CrunchyrollHeyUGuys, and more.

TIMELINE

Anime UK News
& Freelance

2013 - Present

Tanuki Bridge / WiiUAndMii
2011 - 2018

For over a decade, I have been a news and review writer for Anime UK News, an independent website dedicated to the latest on Japanese anime and manga.

I have represented the publication at industry events such as MCM London Comic Con and press junkets, and have interviewed acclaimed anime directors including Mamoru Hosoda ("MIRAI", "BELLE"), Masaaki Yuasa ("INU-OH!"), and Mari Okada ("Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms"). I have also been involved in organising initiatives such as the website's frequent Readers' Choice Awards, and managing their social media channels.

Additionally, I wrote feature articles for Crunchyroll on a freelance basis.

I was the editor and a writer for Tanuki Bridge (formerly WiiUAndMii), and managed a small team of review writers. Initially starting out as a Nintendo fansite, with the rebranding came a broadening of the website's scope to all platforms of gaming, and anime. I served as editor from the site's founding in 2011, to its closure in 2018.

During this time, I also started the "Operation Brave" initiative to raise awareness for the Nintendo 3DS game Bravely Default and campaign for a localised release. I also assisted in the #EndRegionLocking campaign to try to convince Nintendo to make their consoles region free.

Following the site's closure, a selection of my reviews can be read on my blog.

Pre-History

I discovered my passion for entertainment writing as a teen, writing news stories for a friend's long-since defunct fan website PokémonWorld.co.uk. During that time, we collaborated with the retailer GAME on hosting tournaments in their Gamerbase chain of competitive stores.
