FILMMAKING

Samples of works created during my degree, and my

creative roadmap moving forward.

"I think that what you may find mundane in your everyday life, actually aren’t and they’re all kinds of things you can take inspiration from. So, I think it’s more like a necessity that my experience is reflected onto my art."

- Mamoru Hosoda (MIRAIBELLE)

After years working on the PR side of the film industry, a fateful interview with the anime screenwriter Mari Okada inspired me to try and find my own creative voice, to tell the stories that only I can.

The more I learned about the hardships Okada faced in life and started to identify the threads she weaves into her works, I realised that even someone like me who hasn't had the best of starts, could tell amazing stories that resonate with people.

However, I needed to find my creative voice - and learn the tools of the trade! That's why I went back to university, where I wrote short stories, screenplays, produced short films, and graduated with a First Class Honours.

Following graduation, I have my eyes set on becoming a screenwriter and author, with projects currently in development.

"2020"

Directed by Josh A. Stevens &
Lola Delgado-Entrambasaguas

My first experience with 16mm, made for a module in my second year. The short film is about a young woman trying to maintain a relationship during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Production of the short itself was affected by the announcement and implementation of the United Kingdom's second lockdown.

"No Hope, No Glory"

Directed by Josh A. Stevens & Kaan M. Satiroglu

Inspired by a dark chapter of my life where I lost several years on unemployment benefit, No Hope, No Life uses the superhero genre to critique modern British society with a story about a young man who, despite having powers, never has the opportunity to become a hero - and realises that his idol may not be worth looking up to.

The film was produced during the final trimester of my degree. A remake is currently in early development.
